Google lists 2,440,000 Wellness Programs in its search engine. Ones that I have investigated are scored on corporate goals of employee participation in certain activities such as weight loss, exercise, and participation in various educational programs.
With our MSS Focused-Wellness Program, emphasis is put on finding your at-risk employees, and motivating and educating them to decrease their risk by avoiding the metabolic syndrome. The metabolic syndrome is a cluster of condition such as diabetes and pre-diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems, autoimmune conditions, and many other chronic diseases that result from insulin resistance.
In our focused-wellness program it is possible to find at-risk individuals with a battery of 4 tests, which include a fasting blood insulin, a hemoglobin A1C, triglycerides, and a c-reactive protein test, which measures tissue inflammation. When the employee’s lifestyle and nutritional habits are identified and the test result correlated, definite recommendations can be made to benefit and improve their health. A worksite wellness program is the best way to motivate and reward individuals for taking responsibility for their health. Although the information is not ‘rocket science’, lifestyle changes can be a significant hurdle without encouragement.
A corrective plan that addresses the individual employee’s health status is developed, and a worker wellness environment is developed and fostered.
