Focus on Personal Wellness

Wellness is a self-directed process. The process begins with the individual desire for health and the determination to take personal responsibility for their wellness and not entrust others to provide it for them.

It is not a simple task, but it is not nearly as complicated as it is made out to be. The great majority of health problems, which have developed in the past couple if decades are due basically to nutrition and lifestyle changes that we as individuals and a Nation have had thrust upon us. Our health has been profoundly influenced by our sedentary life style, our processed food supply, political decisions of our governmental agencies, and the marketing of disinformation.

Wellness will not be provided for us. If we want it, we will need to be able to assess where we are in our quest, and get good information to help us make the good choices that wellness demands.

The huge majority of our chronic illnesses such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, hardening of the arteries to name a few, are associated by insulin resistance. The metabolic syndrome is a term that includes the above diseases.

The metabolic syndrome can be reversed with exercise, choosing low glycemic foods, eating traditional healthy fats, and avoiding the excitotoxins in our food supply. This is very doable for the motivated individual when they have the proper information.

The best way to measure where you are in your quest for wellness is to measure your insulin resistance. It will give you a good idea of what your current risk is. It is a way to tell you where you are in your personal wellness process and be a way to measure your progress.
